If you are bored, DO THIS!!!

Reading a newspaper, flipping through the pages of a magazine, watching television, listening to music, the list is just endless on what you can do in your spare time. So, I guess adding one more item to the list will only increase your options. The name is Sudoko-Sudoko the number placement puzzle. Okay, I know this sounded more like a dialogue from a Bond film, but believe me it is as exciting as the film. I have been playing this game for the past couple of years, and I have not got bored of it. What can I say I have only got addicted to Sudoko. And the best part is its easy availability; I mean you don’t have to spend money and brains in searching for it. The puzzle is everywhere - on net, newspapers, mobile phones and even on several ipods. The game has become so popular that Sudoko software comes with many distributions of Linux. It has also been released on video game handhelds such as the Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable, the Game Boy Advance, and Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! to name a few.

If you are not among the millions who have been hooked to the game, let me just explain it you.

A Sudoko puzzle is a 9×9 grid which is partially complete. The objective of the game is to fill the rest of the grid in such a way that each vertical column, each horizontal row, and each of the nine 3×3 boxes contain the digits from 1 to 9 (only one times each). The objective may sound complex like some math calculation, but its just simple fun game of logic. Instead of just going on with the words, let me lead you through the solution of your first Sudoko game. Take a look at the puzzle, as I mentioned, it is partially completed, and the challenge is to complete it. You can start from any section; say the third column from the left position. The numbers that are already there are 1, 2, 8, 7, and 5, what remains are 3, 4, 6, and 9. You’ll observe that the number 6 can only be placed in one position and that is just above 5 of the column. Any other position in the same row would conclude a repetition of the number. Following the same pattern, you need to fill the rest of the blocks. I think, at this point I should just leave you with the puzzle. Let me see if you can complete it.

Here is an incentive for completing the puzzle, once you are able to do so, the chances of you getting hooked to the game will increase. Playing it repeatedly will sharpen your Sudoko skills, what next you’ll be participating in the Sudoko competition. Yes, there is a world Sudoko Championship and the first one was held in 2006 in Lucca, Italy. You know how much the winner took home-$ 10, 000. Yeah, you read it right, $10,000. So get on it guys, get ready for the next Sudoko Championship, the venue is India. :)

If Sudoku is as exciting as a Bond movie, I am reaching for my pillow ;)

I have heard a lot about Sudoku from people of a more intelligent tribe. Some even valiantly tried to teach me.

The rest as they say is boring history - I failed to learn one more thing.

Why does Kakuro sound like some Gujarati dish?

Nice post. Yeah, tried Sudoku a few times. It was fun, but it never got addictive. I'll tell you what is addictive - the scary pic of Rakhi up there - can't take my eyes off it
