That boy Ronaldo...

In 2006, during a regular Manchester United practice session, Ruud Van Nistelrooy (back then, the backbone of the United team) punched Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch and left him crying. This feud was supposedly the reason why RVN supposedly quit United and left for Madrid. Back then, I, like many others wondered why the manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) let RVN quit for a 19 year old inconsistent kid.

The answer lies in 2008. After a mind-blowing 2007 season when Ronaldo bagged 23 goals, he has already bagged a mind-numbing 27 goals in just 24 matches this season. And wait, he is not even a striker! He is a winger for God's sake!!!!

Who says Manchester United misses David Beckham? Ronaldo has deservingly taken up the spot left vacant by Beckham and done complete justice and then some more. At just 22 years of age, he can only get better with time and that's something even Real Madrid (the richest club in the world) knows. The latest in the transfer market has it that Ronaldo's transfer fee is in the region of 50 MILLION POUNDS. Purely from a business perspective, he has been a killer for United, who bought him from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 for just over 12 million pounds.

Sweet victory for a lad for whom fighting street gangs and poverty on the streets of Madeira, Portugal was a way of life. From there, he has truly come a long way to become the highest paid player at United. His wages? 1,19,000 pounds a week.

My favorite Ronaldo chant

He plays on the left
He plays on the right
That boy Ronaldo
Makes England look shite

For the fiercely passionate Englishmen to create a chant like that, the boy really has to be sensational.
