Commanders
Commanders are technology leaders and their offerings include the latest technologically advanced offerings. They are innovators and make their offerings future ready. They have a wide and broad market base and are getting into M&Ato advance into new markets.

Performers

They are the prospective commanders of the near future. They score well on latest technological offerings and innovation. Though they have a relatively less market size in comparison to the commanders, their growth strategies are in the offing.

Fighters

They have mostly pure play offerings. Offerings are specialized and SMB centric. The fighters have a niche market, but expansion plans for both technological advancement in products and market coverage are at hand.

Runners

The runners have limited but focused offerings. They score well on technology advancement. They have a very good market coverage and have still more potential plans to advance the market further. With introduction of more offerings in their portfolio, they have the capacity to become commanders as they already have an established market presence.

Vendor Matrix Progress Bands
To further differentiate the players from their competitors in their own quadrant we give them ‘Progress Bands’. These are equal in radius and have varying distance from the center of the quadrant. Each band is a milestone in the quadrant and players falling in these bands have crossed a threshold of progress defined by weights in the parameters.
The ‘Dark Green Commander’ Band
The players in this band have an established market share and the offerings they have are the best by industry standards. They are the clear market leaders.

The ‘Light Green Commander’ Band
The players in this band have just become commanders and need to innovate or acquire technology for products and expand market base. They have the potential to reach the dark green band.

The ‘Dark Red Performer’ Band
The players in this band are high on technological offerings and innovations, but may lack market size. Market growth strategies can launch them into commander’s quadrant.

The ‘Light Red Performer’ Band
The players in this band have just become Performers and have the potential to grow vertically or gain market and jump into the Commanders quadrant.

The ‘Dark Grey Fighter’ Band
The players in this band have just entered the market with their new and innovative offerings and have gained some market. If a player is an established vendor and is in the market for a long time then it is a struggler and a little more time could put them out of competition.

The ‘Light Grey Fighter’ Band
The players in this band are fast emerging companies and with little efforts on technology innovation in product offerings and market expansion can launch them in the Performers or Commanders quadrant.

The ‘Dark Yellow Runner’ Band
The players in this band have niche product offerings but a big market base. A few additions in the product portfolio could pull them up to the commander quadrant.

The ‘Light Yellow Runner’ Band
The players in this band have a reasonable market presence and good product portfolio. A little technological enhancement could launch them in the commander quadrant.
